Along the River Savio
Itinerary: Cesena, Martorano, Matellica, Pisignano, Cesena
This itinerary is the ideal choice for a cycle ride with children in the countryside, far from the traffic of the city. It starts in Cesena and continues on secondary roads and cycle paths along the River Savio as far as Cannuzzo River Park, where there is a shaded barbecue and picnic area. You are almost halfway round and this is the perfect opportunity to stop for a lovely lunch break and to let the youngest cyclists rest and recover. The return to Cesena is on the other bank of the River Savio, again on easy dirt tracks and roads with little traffic.
Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Angels
In the hamlet of Cannuzzo, not too far from the river park, you can visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Angels, an 18th-century church famous for its fresco with an image of the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels.
Brisighella: one of the most beautiful villages in Italy
Nestled at the foot of three rocky outcrops inland of Ravenna, Brisighella is a must-see destination for anyone cycling the hills of Romagna. The fortress, the clock tower and the Sanctuary of Monticino are the three iconic symbols of this small village, whose origins date back to the end of the 13th century. In the old town centre, “Via degli Asini” (or Donkeys’ Street) is a covered, elevated road dating back to the 12th century, which served to protect the village and as shelter for livestock.
