Exploring the village of Brisighella
Itinerary: Faenza, Sarna, Brisighella, Villa Vezzano, Tebano, Celle, San Prospero, Faenza
An itinerary to discover one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”. The route starts from the historic centre of Faenza and gently enters the Faenza countryside until it reaches Brisighella, a picturesque medieval village. As well as visiting the Rocca Manfrediana and the Clock Tower, we suggest you take a peek at the Pieve del Tho, one of the most evocative and best preserved Romanesque churches in Romagna. If you don’t lack time and curiosity, you could also visit the Tanaccia Cave, one of the most beautiful caves in the Vena del Gesso Regional Park. Leaving Brisighella behind you, you will have to face the only climb of the day, before returning to Faenza over pleasant ups and downs.
Curiosities
Tanaccia Cave
The Tanaccia Cave winds along an underground path of about 2 km, 500 m of which can be visited from April to October, and is one of the most evocative and well-known caves in the Vena del Gesso Nature Park. Already used by man during the Copper Age, the Tanaccia Cave has given birth to several remains which point to its having been used for worship or burial. By booking in advance you can organize guided speleological tours of the cave and its tunnels, wells and watercourses.
