Itinerary: Ferrara, Mura di Ferrara, Ferrara

This delightful itinerary helps cyclists to discover one of the historical icons of this so-called “Bike City”. Built in medieval times to protect the city, the walls of Ferrara embrace the historic centre and are now one of the main cycling itineraries, far from urban traffic. During this ride, you will cycle in peace and tranquillity and can visit the entry gates to Ferrara and its most important buildings, including the Gate of Angels and the Estense Castle with its four towers. Short and ideal for the whole family, this itinerary is perfect for those who want to spend a quiet hour enjoying both history and nature, without leaving the city.

Curiosities

The walls of Ferrara are one of the most imposing and best-preserved examples of medieval fortified defensive system in Italy. Construction of the walls took place in four phases, between 1493 and 1618. The walls were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, the same year as completion of the impressive restoration work that gave life to this cycle-pedestrian path, which is much loved by the people of Ferrara.
