The Ferrara amateur cyclists tour
Itinerary: Ferrara, Viconovo, Sabbioncello San Vittore, Formignana, Gradizza, Copparo, Riva del Po, Francolino, Ferrara
A tour in the heart of the Ferrara countryside, on secondary roads loved by local cyclists. The start is scheduled in the old-city centre of Ferrara and the route winds through expanses of orchards and vegetable fields as far as the eye can see, interspersed with irrigation channels. The first obligatory stop is Copparo: here we recommend a visit to Villa Bighi, an interesting modern architectural work used as a cultural space. Continuing the itinerary towards the river you come to the small Romanesque church of S. Venanzio dating back to 1300 before arriving at the Oasi Mulino San Michele in the municipality of Riva del Po. The tour ends with a return ride to Ferrara along the right bank of the Po on the well-known cycle path.
Curiosities
Villa Bighi
Artist, traveller and collector, Dante Bighi was one of the leading figures on the modern Romagna cultural scene. Built in 1963 as a family home, his villa has over the years come to house numerous works of art (including some by Warhol and Fontana) and hosted several intellectuals. Donated in 1994 to the town of Copparo together with all its works of art, Villi Bighi is now used as an artistic and cultural promotion centre.
