Discovering the Mill on the Po
Itinerary: Ro, Bondeno, Sant’Agostino, Ro
This itinerary is a journey through the history of one of the most iconic symbols of the Ferrara countryside: the mill. Completely surrounded by greenery, this loop route starts from Ro and extends along the Destra Po cycle path (also Eurovelo 8 and VenTo) crossing the Po river park. While pedalling you will have the chance to discover the typical Ferrara countryside, with numerous watercourses and fields stretching as far as the eye can see. At the end of the route we recommend a break at the Bicigrill del Mulino equipped area. This cyclists’ amenity is located near a faithful reconstruction of one of the many mills that inspired the famous novel by Riccardo Bacchelli, The Mill on the Po, written between 1938 and 1940.
Curiosities
The Mill on the Po – Written between 1938 and 1940, The Mill on the Po is a novel by Riccardo Bacchelli that tells the story of the Scacerni family through the events of four generations. The work focuses on the point of view of the peasant class which lived in the Po Valley area of Ferrara, struggling with the events that followed one another in over a century, from the end of the Napoleonic period until the First World War.
