Pedalling between water and sky in the Comacchio Valleys

This easy route will take you on an adventure through the Comacchio Valleys and its salt pans, in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna Po Delta Regional Park. Cycling on quiet, unpaved roads you can enjoy the absolute quietness of an area where sky and water seem to merge on the horizon and enjoy an experience of absolute freedom that only bicycles are able to convey. Known for their rich variety of birdlife, the Comacchio Valleys and their salt pans are the natural habitat of pink flamingos. It will not be hard to sight these beautiful birds landing and feeding on the surface of the water.

Flamingos – When it comes to social rights, the animal kingdom is often one step ahead of our modern society and flamingos are an outstanding example of an organised community with equal opportunities for women and men. Both male and female flamingos do in fact contribute to the suckling of their young thanks to goitre milk, a nutrient solution produced by the glands of the digestive tract and regurgitated in the beaks of chicks.
